Russian Oregon Social Services

Russian Oregon Social Services (ROSS) was established in 1994 by Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon (EMO) to serve needs of refugees and immigrants arriving from the former Soviet Union and residing in the Portland metro area.

Goals

The main goal of ROSS is helping Russian-speaking community in overcoming the many barriers in the adaptation to life in United States and in achieving economic self-sufficiency. To meet the needs of this emerging community, ROSS provides educational outreach, cross-cultural and community orientation, case management and direct services.

The direct services include English as a Second Language classes, in-home tutoring, mentoring, citizenship training, domestic violence prevention and intervention services, housing assistance, legal assistance, mental health counseling, breast health education and outreach, direct senior assistance, dental care, tax assistance and referral and linkage with other providers. ROSS is the only agency in Oregon that works exclusively with the Russian-speaking population.
