What is News4Neighbors.net?

News4Neighbors is a website for discussing local issues. We provide tools for publishing truly local news and discussing it intelligently.

How do we survive?

The local businesses in the Portland area support us through membership in our business directory. All of these businesses meet the definition of "local" as described by the Think Local First (of which we are a proud member). Please support our local businesses, and if you saw them at N4N, say "hi" for us.

Come join us! Read the online stories and share your opinions. Vote on the polls. Got some local news? Write up a story! We are still experimenting with the site, so we look forward to your feedback.

Who is News4Neighbors?

News4Neighbors, LLC is a locally owned Portland business. Our software is developed locally by Portland area open source developers. We are hosted by the nice folks at Naked Ape Consulting, who also help develop our code. News4Neighbors is but one example of the great OSS work that is being done locally using exclusively open source software.

Eligibility: Any independent, locally owned private business

• More than 50% of the business's ownership lives within 50 miles of the main place of business; the business is privately owned rather than publicly traded (and therefore not owned by distant stockholders).
• As opposed to a franchise; Autonomous and free to make decisions about the name, look and feel of the business, menus and products sold, and able to freely choose whether or not to sell locally made products and/or work with other local service businesses.
