The evening will feature “We Can Beat Chronic Kidney Disease!” by keynote speaker David Ellison, M.D., head of OHSU’s Division of Nephrology and Hypertension. The event will celebrate the partnership between MIKE Program’s youth outreach and the Portland nephrology community, which includes health professionals, treatment centers, training facilities, and community-based organizations. About MIKE Program

Multicultural Integrated Kidney Education Program (MIKE Program) was founded in 2000 and incorporated as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization in 2003. The community-based organization prevents kidney disease through mentorship and empowerment of teens at most risk of developing diseases that include obesity, diabetes and high blood pressure, which are some of the precursors to kidney failure. Administered with trained adult mentors at public schools and youth service agencies, the comprehensive, culturally engaged health curriculum of MIKE Program delivers project-based service learning in the context of preventing kidney disease to promote healthy habits in youth and communities that lack adequate access to social and economic resources. For more information, visit www.mikeprogram.org or call (503) 296-7705."
